Glitz, glamour, glory....… Bollywood has all these and more. No doubt then it attracts people from all walks of life into its fold. No doubt Bollywood demands huge sacrifice too. And most aspirants are willing to make these sacrifices. Sometimes give up their jobs, their profession and let go of their income to make it big here. They leave no stone unturned to chase their dreams. But, as they say, all’s well that ends well. The efforts of these Bollywood stars certainly did not go in vain. They achieved what they set out to. Here are five Bollywood stars who left their jobs to follow their dream of being an actor. 


1. Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar had a black belt in Taekwondo before moving to Bangkok from India. During his time there, he did odd jobs like street cooking and teaching martial arts. He later shifted base to Mumbai and started teaching martial arts here. One of his students suggested that he should take up modelling. A few months down the line, producer Pramod Chakravarty, offered him the lead role in Deedar. Currently, Akshay is one of the most successful actors of Bollywood delivering several hits each year. He made his debut with Saugandh (1991).

2. Ranveer Singh

We all know that Ranveer Singh is meant for the movies . He too knew all along that he belonged on the big screen. But, he chose to complete his education first. After completing his graduation from H.R. College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai, he went to the United States to pursue his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University, Bloomington. After moving back in 2007, he worked as a copywriter in an advertising agency He finally got his break with Yash Raj Films’ Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) opposite Anushka Sharma.

3. Taapsee Pannu

With exceptional performances in films like Pink, Mulk and more recently Saand Ki Aankh, Taapsee Pannu has established herself in Bollywood. She belongs to the big league now. However, many don't know that she earlier worked as a software engineer after graduating in Computer Science Engineering from Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology in New Delhi. She auditioned for a Channel V show called Get Gorgeous which led her to the entertainment industry. She made her debut with the Telugu film, Jhummandi Naadam ( 2010)

4. John Abraham

After getting a Master's degree in Management Sciences from Mumbai Educational trust, John Abraham worked for an advertising agency as a media planner. However, to make some extra bucks, he took up modelling as a second job. In fact, it was his modelling that put him on filmmaker's radar. Soon he was flooded with offers. He made his debut with Jism (2003)

5. Parineeti Chopra

A few know that Parineeti Chopra has had quite a journey before making her way in front of the camera. At 17, she received a triple honours degree in business, finance, and economics from Manchester Business School in the United Kingdom. Later, she went on to work with Manchester United Football Club as team leader of the catering department. After which, she bagged a job as a PR consultant with the marketing department of Yash Raj Films. She then made her Bollywood debut in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011) with the same production house.
