Neena Gupta has been getting high praise for her role as a grandmom in Sardar Ka Grandson. In the film, she stars as Kanwaljit Singh’s mother. The actress had played his lover on screen in the 90s and a netizen pointed this out to her. "Don't tell me Kanwaljit Singh is Neena Gupta's son in the movie? They were co-stars in the 90s,” the fan had asked. "Bhaiya yehi toh acting ka maza hai. Kal jo aapka lover tha woh aapka beta hai, yehi toh maza hai (That's the joy of acting; someone could play both your lover and your son. It's fun),” Gupta responded, according to an entertainment portal.
In Sardar Ka Grandson, Gupta plays the matriarch to a Punjabi family. She is Kanwaljit Singh’s mother in the film while Singh plays the role of Arjun Kapoor father. Both Singh and Gupta have starred together in the popular 90s show, Saans. In Saans, Kanwaljit Singh and Neena Gupta play the role of a couple, Priya Kapoor (Neena Gupta) and Gautam Kapoor (Kanwaljit Singh) who have two children, Akul and Mithi. The show revolves around their life and an extramarital affair that could ruin everything.
Besides Gupta, Singh and Kapoor, Sardar Ka Grandson also features Soni Razdan, Rakul Preet Singh and Kumud Mishra.
