Songs have always been an integral part of Bollywood films. They make the movies interesting, bring in a visual treat for the audience and give the fans a catchy tune to hum. Songs make a movie more memorable and years later, it is the songs that the audience connects with the most. Some lyrics are so iconic and so catchy that our filmmakers have used them as movie titles to latch on to their popularity.

Here’s taking a look at some of the most memorable songs being used as movie titles.

1. Om Shanti Om (2007)

One of most iconic chart toppers picturized on Rishi Kapoor, this song has gained a cult status and is remembered today not only for its foot-tapping music but unique picturization as well. It was sung by the evergreen Kishore Kumar and was composed by the composer-duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal for Subhash Ghai’s Karz (1980). Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om was also based on the theme of reincarnation just like Karz and so she thought it best to name the movie after the song.



2. Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008)

RD Burman’s Bachna ae haseeno was a groovy number from the film Hum Kisise Kum Naheen sung by Kishore Kumar and was one of the biggest hits of 1977. The song was used as the title for the Ranbir Kapoor starrer and a remixed version of it was used in the film as well. Looks like Yash Raj Studios fancied the song a little too much!

3. Jaane tu....Ya jaane na (2008)

The title of this rom-com flick is taken from the song Tera mujhse hai pehle ka naata koi sung by Kishore Kumar and composed by the legendary RD Burman for the Shashi Kapoor starrer Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1973). The song was a massive hit back then and is still popular to this day.



4. Dum Maaro Dum (2011)

Another of composer RD Burman’s chart-topping numbers from the ’70s, this song, sung by Asha Bhosle for Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971), remained on the number 1 position for 12 consecutive weeks! The song was used as the title of the 2011 crime-thriller film directed by Rohan Sippy. While the original featured Zeenat Aman, a  recreated version was filmed on Deepika Padukone in Dum Maaro Dum



5 Ek Main aur Ekk Tu (2012)

Dharma Production’s Ek main aur ekk tu starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor took the inspiration for its title from Rishi Kapoor’s film Khel Khel Mein (1976). The music for the film was by RD Burman. The original song voiced by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle was picturized on Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh and became a youth anthem at the time.



6. Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)

The title for director Yash Raj Chopra’s last film was inspired from Lata Mangeshkar’s Jab tak hai jaan number from the blockbuster Sholay (1975). The song famously had Hema Malini dancing barefoot on glass particles in front of the dacoits.The music from Sholay was composed by RD Burman.

7. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (2013)

This coming of age movie, which was a roaring success, is still fresh in our minds. It had peppy songs like Badtameez dil, Kabira, Ilaahi in its soundtrack but did you know that the movie title was inspired from Kishore Kumar’s song Yeh jawani hai deewani from the rom com Jawani Deewani (1972). The frothy number was composed by RD Burman and was picturized on Randhir Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan. It is still a catchy number to listen to.



8. Jai Ho (2014)

The song was composed by AR Rahman for the film Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and was sung by Sukhvinder Singh, Mahalaxmi Iyer, and Vijay Prakash. It was a massive success and went on to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture. The Salman Khan starrer Jai Ho took the inspiration for its title from this song.



9. Baar Baar Dekho (2016)

The Sidharth Malhotra- Katrina Kaif Starrer takes inspiration for its title from the 1962 song Baar Baar Dekho sung by the legendary Mohammed Rafi and composed by Ravi for the Shammi Kapoor film, China Town. The song was an instant hit and went on to become a classic. Incorporating a rock and roll feel, the song is still popular over the airwaves even after all these years.
