It’s been a year since Sushant Singh Rajput passed away. The actor’s first death anniversary has made fans remember him on social media. While the actor has given some noteworthy performances in MS Dhoni, Kai Po Che, Shudh Desi Romance, very few know that he was even offered some other big projects too.
Sushant Singh Rajput was offered films like Fitoor, Half Girlfriend, Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani. We take a look at the big roles he was offered and why he had to back out of it.
During the investigation of his death, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali too got questioned. It was during this investigation that we came to know that the actor was offered three of the filmmaker’s films – Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. However the actor didn’t have time to give long schedules to the director.

Abhishek Kapoor who introduced Sushant with Kai Po Che, later even offered him Fitoor which was the adaptation of Great Expectations. The actor however couldn’t say yes to this film. He had committed himself to another film and didn’t want to say no to them just because a bigger project came knocking at his door.

Mohit Suri’s Half Girlfriend was first offered to Sushant. In fact, he was even announced as the face of the film alongside Shraddha Kapoor. Sushant had to back out from the film because of date issues. Speaking about Half Girlfriend, he had once said to an entertainment portal, “See, I was doing many films and they are all releasing now. I don’t want to name them. What happens is, when I give my word to someone and he’s delaying (not because he wants to, but because of a particular reason) and I get to understand it, I won’t ditch. So be it the biggest film with the biggest studio or the smallest film, I won’t leave another film. So unfortunately, because of the two films that I was doing and that didn’t happen, I lost out on 12 films in the last one year. One film didn’t happen and the other was put off by a few months. And these films are the films that we generally talk about these days. Let’s not get into all that.”
The actor was even offered Romeo Akbar Walter – RAW, but had to step down due to date issues and was later replaced by John Abraham.
Sushant’s immense talent made him the director’s actor and will always be missed on the big screen.
