We got a small update on the lives of the actors from the sitcom Friends during the reunion last month. Watching the six actors come together, probably one last time sent out a wave of emotions through the fans across the globe. It was also a delight to watch James Michael Tyler, the actor who played Gunther in the show make a brief appearance in a zoom call during the show.
A month later, the actor took to social media to share a heartbreaking update about his health. James informed that he’s been battling stage 4 of prostate cancer since 2018 and is confined to a chair as he cannot walk anymore. He said, "I'm sorry to say that I'm not with you today to announce that there's going to be a Friends movie. Actually, I'm here to let you know that in September 2018, I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which had spread to my bones," the 59-year-old actor shared on June 21 on Today show. "I've been dealing with that diagnosis for almost the past three years. ... It's stage 4 (now). Late stage cancer. So eventually, you know, it's gonna probably get me.”
Speaking of why he didn’t announce this earlier and why he didn’t want to miss the reunion in whatever capacity, he said,"I didn't want it to be like, 'Oh, and by the way, Gunther has cancer,' you know what I mean?”
Furthermore, he said his goal last year was to celebrate his 59th birthday and now it’s to save a life, "My goal this past year is to see my 59th birthday. I did that," he shared. "My goal now is to help save at least one life.”
