Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan had once revealed in an interview that she and her sister, Karisma Kapoor, were brought up "single-handedly" by their mother, Babita. The Jab We Met actress had said that the siblings did not see their father, Randhir Kapoor, often while they were growing up and neither did they receive any financial assistance from the Kapoor family. Randhir Kapoor and Babita got married in 1971 and in 1988, he moved out of their home to go live with his parents.
“Mum was always doing something, she single-handedly brought us up. She has a real estate business apart from other small businesses. It was tough. Though my father is also an important factor in my life," Kapoor Khan told a leading daily in 2007. “We were left alone to fend for ourselves. But now we see more of our father, though we did not see him often in our initial years. We are a family now," she added. Recently, Randhir Kapoor had said that he would be selling the ancestral Kapoor home in Mumbai's Chembur area and moving closer to Bandra where Kareena and Karisma live.
