Taapsee Pannu is gearing up to step onto the pitch as cricketer Mithali Raj in her upcoming film Shabaash Mithu. The actress who has been consistently delivering great performances over the past few years in films like Pink, Thappad and Haseen Dilruba, has now opened up about budgets in the Bollywood film industry, specifically the pay gap issue. In a recent interview with a leading news portal, Taapsee Pannu shared that the entire budget of Shabaash Mithu is as much as an A-list male actor's salary. She said, “Shabaash Mithu is my biggest budget film as a protagonist but still the budget of my entire film is equivalent to the budget of an A-lister (male actor)’s salary."
“Things have changed, but not anywhere it could be called equal," the actress added.
Shabaash Mithu is one of the many women-centric films releasing this year and while that's a step in the right direction, the industry is far from achieving equality.
Taapsee Pannu was last seen in Looop Lapeta. In Shabaash Mithu, she will essay the role of Indian cricketing icon Mithali Raj. The film arrives in cinemas on July 15 this year.
