The loss of Dilip Kumar has surely left the industry in a shock. The finest thespian of Hindi cinema passed away yesterday morning and it surely puts an end to an era in Bollywood. Shatrughan Sinha who has worked with Dilip Saab in Kranti and has always remained close to his family exclusively spoke to E Times and shared some memories.
Shatrughan Sinha begins by saying that Dilip Kumar was one of the last Mughals of Indian cinema who has left us. He further states that while Dilip Kumar was called the Tragedy King, his comic timing too was great. Shatrughan Sinha points out that the veteran actor was great with his timing and his comic sequences in Ganga Jumna show that he could do everything with perfection.
Shatrughan Sinha even recollects the stories from the sets of Mughal-E-Azam where it was said that he wore 40 kgs of armour and shot for the film. And what history he created with his movies.
In 2015 when Shatrughan’s son was getting married, Saira Banu had called the actor and had said that they will not be able to make it for the wedding as Dilip Kumar was unwell. Hearing this Shatrughan Sinha and his family went to visit him so that his son Kush Sinha who was tying the knot could seek his blessings. “Sairaji told me that he is unwell and they won't be able to attend. I told her that we are coming to their place so that they can bless my son. We went there just a day before Luv tied the knot. I will always have vivid memories of Dilip saab putting his hand on my son's head to give him aashirwad.”
Shatrughan Sinha even pointed out that how Dilip Kumar was not conferred with the Bharat Ratna, “I don't want to compare Dilip saab to many others who have got the prestigious award.” Dilip Kumar has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan (1991), the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1994) and the Padma Vibhushan (2015) in the past but didn’t receive the highest Indian civilian honour.
