Neena Gupta has had quite an inspiring life. Right from her early days as an actor to how reinventing herself with the kind of movies she’s doing, Neena has a big fan following not only for her work but also how she’s handled her personal life.
A single mother through most of her life, Neena gave birth to Masaba Gupta out of wedlock after her relationship with cricketer Sir Vivian Richards. In her autobiography, Sacha Kahun Toh, Neena has written extensively about the hardships of being a single mother and even the support she received during the time. She recalls the marriage offers she had received during the pregnancy and said, “I was too proud of myself. I said I will not marry because I need a name, because I will get money. Like about this person who is gay. That was offered to me, that ‘you will get a name and you do what you want’. I would never do that.”
She further recalls how she and Masaba would spend time with Vivian Richards and how they all will forever be fond memories, “I was still attached to Vivian, although we met very seldom. But there was a connection for quite many years. There was a connection with Masaba also. We used to go for holidays together sometimes and whatever time Masaba spent with him or I spent with him was very nice. There was no problem because we were away from his house. He has a wife and he has children. I will always cherish those memories.”
