Writer duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar were the most sought after storytellers in the ‘70s and ‘80s in the Indian film industry. Films like Zanjeer, Deewar, Sholay and many more that won several accolades and went on to become cult classics in the later years were written by them. Though their association ended in 1982, they had several films released through that decade.

Now, after thirty years of their split, Javed Akhtar’s son, Farhan Akhtar has decided to produce a documentary-drama on their life with his production house, Excel Entertainment. There was also speculation going around that Zoya Akhtar will direct the project but now the news of a new director being roped in is doing the rounds.

A source close to the makers revealed,“It will contain extensive interviews with Javed and Salim Saab and also with Amitabh Bachchan whose career was spectacularly amplified by the films that Salim-Javed wrote for him. It will also have extensive footage from the phenomenal films that the duo wrote. We are on the verge of finalizing the director. It will be someone new.”
